In a major step towards strengthening community-driven education, the Ondo State Universal Basic Education Board, in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission, has inaugurated newly elected executives of the School-Based Management Committee across the state.
The inauguration, held at St. James CAC Mega Primary School in Akure, also featured the unveiling of revised SBMC operational documents. These guidelines are designed to clarify the responsibilities of committee members and improve accountability, transparency and effectiveness in school management.
Speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary of ODSUBEB, Princess Abike Bayo-Ilawole, described SBMCs as an important link between schools and the communities they serve. She explained that active community participation plays a key role in improving access to education, promoting equity and strengthening learning outcomes.
The new executives were encouraged to provide responsible leadership, support school improvement plans and ensure that resources are managed effectively. They were also urged to work closely with parents, schools, traditional leaders and religious institutions to address challenges affecting learners, including drug abuse and other harmful behaviours.
ODSUBEB reaffirmed its commitment to building a stronger and more effective SBMC structure that supports enrolment, retention and the successful completion of basic education for every child.
